I’d like to start off by thanking Frank Bragg as the newest Patron of the podcast. Thank you Frank, especially in this time of Covid. The world is very different, people’s lives are very different, including mine. So your generosity in this time is much appreciated.
In episode #95, I am speaking with Seth Yoder. He came onto my radar after his name was mention by a previous guest of the podcast. So I looked him up, read some articles he wrote and liked the guy immediately.
Like me, Seth really enjoys learning about nutrition and appreciates evidence and discourse. He does what very few people have time to do, critique the work of other people. I consider this to be what put Seth on the map. He is known in many circles for writing extensively about the work of Gary Taubes, who wrote many books including Good Calories, Bad Calories, and Nina Teicholz, who wrote The Big Fat Surprise.
In our discussion, we talk about his education and what motivated him to critique these books and these authors. We then speak about his work with a new project called Red Pen Reviews which seeks to review popular nutrition books for their scientific accuracy and healthfulness. Podcast guest Dr. Stephan Guyenet is also involved with Red Pen Reviews. And we end with talking about Seth’s advice on finding the best evidence within the nutrition space.
