ICP 19: Dr. Michael Klaper

Defying traditional medical dogmas to reverse chronic diseases.

Dr. Michael Klaper is a legend in the whole-foods, lifestyle medicine community. He’s a general practitioner who has been treating patients for over 30 years. But not all of that time was spent prescribing lifestyle medicine. Early in his career, he employed the traditional methods he was taught in medical school to treat chronic diseases like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease. But he felt frustrated that his patients weren’t getting better. No matter what modern treatment or prescription he recommended, they continued to come back sicker than when they had left him.

To make the long story short, Dr. Klaper saw the light, or rather as you will hear in the interview, saw the chicken fat. He did some critical thinking, realized what was happening and recognized not only the etiology of these chronic diseases, but the power inherent in lifestyle medicine. Since that point, Dr. Klaper has successfully treated thousands of patients and reversed their chronic diseases. In our conversation he makes it sound so simple, because it is. Health is a choice, and he explains that what we eat every day makes a profound impact on our health.

Dr. Klaper speaks with the spark and vigor of a teenager along with the eloquence of a seasoned scholar which made this conversation particularly enjoyable for me. I hope you find it equally as beneficial and pleasant. He is one of the most thoughtful doctors I have interviewed. In our e-mail correspondence setting up the interview date and time, he and I wrote at some length about our families, our hobbies his appearance in the movie “What the Health” and even our recent weddings. Because of that exchange, Dr. Klaper has earned a special place in my heart and in the history of the podcast.
